Have you been charged with finding entertainment for the Prom ?
You've looked high and low trying to find some Prom Ideas that would be age-appropriate.
Let me tell you about something that I know works because I’ve been doing it for 26 years.
It also will encourage your students in the arts and STEAM so it’s also educational.
My name is Kathy Buskett. I am a professional caricature artist. I have been doing this for 26 years and I worked with teenagers in a youth group setting as well as teaching art to teens and even in a group home where I was a group home parent for several years.
I draw fast flattering and fun caricatures for proms as well as all kinds of other teenage events. I literally just finished doing a tween birthday party this past weekend and you can see a post about that HERE.
Last year I was so busy drawing that I did not get a chance to post everything on my blog that I wanted to, but I have a bunch of pictures from Daphne‘s prom so I thought I put a few of them up here so that you can see how much fun these kids had.
They’re having me back again this year by the way.
As usual, I was the last person there, finishing up as the kids were getting their last drawings done, and they were cleaning up when a janitor came over to me and said “You’re the hardest working person here.”
I laughed because it’s true. And then that happened to me again just the other day at another event that I worked at “You’re the hardest-working person here“ someone said.
It’s true. I stay til the last person gets drawn, I dont have time to eat or even use the bathroom half the time, but I love it so it doesn’t matter. I enjoy making people laugh with my drawings and I love the fact that they put them up in their houses all over the world. I have probably half a million faces in my lifetime.
Teenagers especially enjoy getting their caricatures drawn, especially if they are artistic or in the arts in anyway. Not only do they get to get a souvenir of their prom or homecoming, dance, or other event, but they also get to speak to a real artist. THey get a bucket- List Experience, AND they get a souvenir of it. which incidentally is how I started my own career as a caricaturist.
I always do my best to encourage kids in the arts and to tell them that yes you can make a living making art you have to work your butt off at it, but you can do it. It’s totally doable.
I also GIVE SCHOOLS A DISCOUNT. Rather than my $299 price I charge for Corporate Events, Schools only pay $150 per hour. (travel and minimum time applies)
So without further ado here are some pictures of last years prom. You can almost hear the smiles and giggles.
If you would like me to come to your school‘s prom, I am located on the Gulf Coast of the USA. I do travel to other places but for schools it probably makes the most sense to find someone close to you. If you’re not near me, I can direct you to someone who is, so feel free to email me. I will be happy to give you a reference.
But if you are either on the Gulf coast of Alabama, Mississippi, the Florida panhandle, Louisiana near New Orleans or thereabouts or even lower Georgia, I am happy to come to your event as long as its long enough and I will draw my fast flattering and fun caricatures for your students.
One more thing: just a tip.
Make sure whoever you hire is FAST. They need to be able to draw enough people because the last thing that you want is someone who will draw very slowly and only get a few people drawn.
I have literally seen this at events and it’s not good. It gives the rest of us a bad name.
I am one of the fastest caricature artists in the world and can draw 20 to 30 people per hour consistently, so if you have 100 students and you have me there for four hours, I can get everybody drawn or at least everyone who wants one.
So check in with me now to see if your day is still available - Before somebody else gets it!
